Championing Safer Healthcare: Device Technologies celebrates Infection Prevention and Control Week

At Device Technologies, improving patients’ lives is at the core of everything we do. With over 120 years of combined healthcare experience, our Infection Prevention Technologies (IPT) team is deeply passionate about protecting the health and safety of both healthcare professionals and their patients across the regions.  For more than 30 years, the team has helped pioneer advancements in surgical decontamination and sterilisation technologies across Australia and New Zealand, setting new benchmarks in infection prevention and control. Collaborating directly with hospitals, healthcare professionals and central sterile services departments (CSSD), our team of experts takes the time to understand their needs, challenges, and patient outcomes, allowing for effective, evidence-based infection prevention strategies, solutions, and ongoing support.

As this week is International Infection Prevention and Control Week, our Infection Prevention team recognises the critical role of CSSD professionals in maintaining hospital safety and upholding the principles of infection control in healthcare facilities across the region. Their expertise and precision underpin every surgical and clinical outcome, ensuring that every reusable medical device is reprocessed safely and sterilised effectively.

District Manager at Southern NSW Local Health District, Roel Beltran Castillo, MPH (Master of Public Health), CSSD Lead and ACIPC (Australasian College for Infection Prevention and Control) member, has worked alongside our Device Technologies IPT team for many years. With a strong passion for upholding the highest standards of infection prevention and control in Australia, he says that in reprocessing and sterilisation departments, ‘getting it right’ is essential for patient outcomes and community health.

Roel said, “Our commitment to patient outcomes has provided tangible affirmation of our role in infection prevention and control. By ensuring the safe and effective reprocessing of reusable medical devices, we help mitigate risks associated with hospital-acquired infections and complications.

“‘Getting it right’ requires regulatory compliance, compliant equipment, instructions for use, competent staff, and a robust quality management system - it also requires consistency and adaptability. As technology and surgical interventions evolve, so too must our standards and practices.

In recent years, new and upgraded technologies have helped transform the way CSSDs operate, increasing efficiency, improving traceability, and enhancing outcomes. At Device Technologies, we are committed to delivering an extensive range of high-quality products and solutions, whilst introducing some of the world’s most advanced technologies to the region.

Roel continued to say, “Our efficiencies have greatly increased since Device Technologies provided solutions to integrate new technologies and systems, regardless of brand, within our reprocessing area. Additionally, the continued commitment and support of the team have made a major impact on our operational team, helping improve efficiencies and eliminate any challenges that arise.”

For our IPT team, this Infection Prevention and Control Week is an opportunity to celebrate the dedication and expertise of those working in sterilisation and reprocessing departments across the regions.

“Infection Prevention and Control Week is a chance to shine a light on the incredible work CSSD teams do every day,” says Kristin Parsons, Device Technologies IPT Product Manager. “Their attention to detail, commitment to patient safety, and collaboration with our team help raise the standard of infection prevention across Australia and New Zealand. We’re proud to support and empower them to deliver their best care every day. Together we are part of a greater purpose to make healthcare safer for everyone.”

Infection Prevention and Control Week reminds us that patient safety is a continuous journey driven by skilled professionals and reliable systems. Our Infection Prevention team is proud to stand alongside healthcare professionals to provide world-class products, support, and guidance enabling hospitals to stay at the forefront of infection prevention. By working together, we continue to advance the standards of care in healthcare and shape a safer future for all.
