Sydney Adventist Hospital leads the way with Australia’s first da Vinci 5 surgery
Sydney Adventist Hospital has taken robotic-assisted surgery from installation to action, performing Australia’s first procedure using the da Vinci 5 surgical system. The hospital was among the first to install the technology and has distinguished itself by progressing quickly into real-world surgical use.

Developed by Intuitive Surgical, the da Vinci 5 represents a major leap forward in minimally invasive surgery. The system delivers 10,000 times the computing power of its predecessor, providing surgeons with greater autonomy, enhanced precision, and improved workflow efficiencies.
The da Vinci 5 is supported by My Intuitive+, a connected digital ecosystem that uses data-driven insights to enhance surgical performance. With real-time case observation, collaboration, and mentoring via Telepresence, surgeons can bridge the gap between metro and regional areas without having to leave their primary hospital. My Intuitive+ also enables surgeons to schedule training sessions and stay up to date with the latest techniques across the da Vinci community.
Sydney Adventist Hospital’s rollout has been supported by Device Technologies, a leader in medical innovation across Australia, providing expertise in the adoption of next-generation surgical tools. Lisa Kirsch, Director of Sales - Surgical & Hospital at Device Technologies, said the milestone signals a shift from innovation to real-world impact.
“The da Vinci 5 ushers in a new era for robotic-assisted surgery, one that supports surgeons, improves hospital efficiency, and delivers better outcomes for patients.
“We’re delighted that the Sydney Adventist Hospital has become the first institution to use this game-changing piece of technology. The installation and use shows a high degree of trust in both the da Vinci system and Device Technologies - we look forward to supporting them further as procedures using the technology increase.”
With the first procedures now underway, Sydney Adventist Hospital has set a new benchmark for robotic-assisted surgery in Australia, combining innovation with tangible patient benefits.
